Abstract
The study was aimed to assess the organization and evaluation of effectiveness of a guided instructional approach in physics practical work, under the use of Prediction, Explanation with reasoning Observation, Explanation with clarification, Evaluation, PEOEE teaching model. The study was conducted for 0-level secondary schools at urban-western region in Zanzibar. The study used explorative approach and evaluative methods based on both qualitative and quantitative research paradigms. The study involved Form II .f.nd Form III students and their teachers from Kidongo Chekundu, Kiembe Samaki, Muslim Academy and Mwanakwerekwe Secondary Schools. The findings showed that; first, PEOEE lesson was well organized and executed. Students were able to develop scientific process skills; appropriate prediction, accurate observation and drawing conclusion. However, the students did not perform well in data interpretation and analysis. It was also found that students-materials interaction was the most convenient way, which influenced student's creativity. Actually a guided instructional approach was effectively practiced, well planned, and prepared. Teachers organized and managed well PEOEE lessons. Students were creative enough to plan and design lesson activity by their own. Now it is for the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training in Zanzibar (MOEVT), to look for the possibility of establishing in-service training program for physics teachers to practice a guided instructional approach in teaching and learning physics at schools.
