Abstract
This research assessed various investments decisions making practices of Tanzania enterprises, with emphasis on factors influencing the decisions; Case of Food Processors in Dar es Salaam. The objectives were to explore the investment decisions undertaken by food processors in Dar es Salaam; explore the actual factors influencing the investment decisions by Dar es salaam food processors; assess the effects of investment decisions undertaken to the survival of food processing enterprises in Dar es Salaam; compare the observed practices to the existing theory to determine conformity and or differences and their underlying causes and recommend ways that can reverse the situation in case food processors do not employ proper investment appraisal in their investment decisions. The study used a case study approach since it was not possible to investigate the country, thus the choice of Dar es Salaam region. Structured questions touching on the above objectives were administered and the quantitative analysis done through SPSS and qualitative analysis recorded and analysed in a tabular form. The results indicate that food processors are influenced by economies of scale and marketing reach in making investments decisions, individual intuitions and profit levels as indicators for the general performance of the business. And food processors invest more on expansion of existing product to cope with their objectives and goals. The research recommends more on diversification, research and development, technology advancement and education of investors on investment decisions making practices.
