Furthermore there was a significant difference between male and female in their ability to influence and convince others to use safe sex as well as to discuss with friends about HIV preventive behaviours. The study also established that young people adherence to HIV preventive behaviours was at a low level with females being in a disadvantage position compared to males. No significant relationship was found between the selected psychosocial competence skills and HIV preventive behaviours except for decision making. a negative significant relationship was found between decision making and consistent use of condoms among male. A negative significant relationship was also found between decision making and abstinence from sex among female. The study indicated that young people`s adoption of healthy behaviours was poor.
