Item Aspects of Kinyakyusa phonology: the case of Kimwamba Dialect(University of Dar es Salaam, 2008) Samwel, MethodThis study describes some phonological •aspects of Kinyakyusa from a primarily descriptive point of view, taking Kimwamba dialect as a case study. As far as I know there are very few studies on Kinyakyusa language that have so far been done. Therefore, this study is done so as to fill the gap of knowledge caused by scarce written linguistic materials of Kinyakyusa language, Kimwamba dialect to be more precise. In studying the aspects of Kimwamba phonology, this study uses the framework of Generative Phonology (henceforth GP) taking into consideration both the standard Model (SGP) and the Extended Models' points of view. The findings of this study show that Kimwamba dialect has a sound inventory of fourteen vowel phonemes (seven short vowels and seven long vowels), fourteen consonants, two glides and two pre-nasalized consonants. The study also presents sound combinations and sound sequences of Kimwamba dialect which are: $ V $, $ CV $, $ NCV, $ CGV and $ NCGV $. Moreover, the study presents four phonological processes that affect vowels and three that affect consonants. Recommendation for further studies includes aspects of suprasegmentally phonology of Kimwamba dialect and Kinyakyusa language as a whole. It is also worth pointing out here that this study is a description of Kinyakyusa phonology, with special reference to only one dialect, namely, Kimwamba. There is a need to study other Kinyakyusa dialects too for comparative purposes.Item Mabadiliko katika majigambo: uchunguzi wa majigambo ya jadi na ya bongo fleva(University of Dar es Salaam, 2012) Samwel, MethodUtafiti huu umeshughulikia Mabadiliko katika Majigambo: Uchunguzi wa Majigambo ya Jadi na ya Bongo Fleva. Tulifanya utafiti ili kuhakiki madai kwamba tanzu mpya za fasihi zinazoibuka hujengwa katika misingi ya tanzu za awali. Majigambo ya jadi ni utanzu wa fasihi simulizi uliokuwapo tangu awali, majigambo yanayojitokeza katika muziki wa Bongo Fleva ni utanzu mpya; utafiti huu, kwa hiyo, umechunguza jinsi tanzu hizo mbili zinavyohusiana ili kuona kama majigambo ya Bongo Fleva yamechimbuka kutoka katika majigambo ya jadi. Malengo ya utafiti huu ni kubainisha nduni za ushairi wa majigambo ya jadi na ya Bongo Fleva; kuzilinganisha na kuzilinganua nduni hizo; kueleza sababu za mabadiliko ya majigambo, na kueleza mchango wa mabadiliko hayo katika maendeleo ya fasihi simulizi. Ili kufikia malengo hayo, utafiti huu umetumia mbinu tano ambazo ni ukusanyaji wa matini, usikilizaji wa kanda na sidii, ushuhudiaji, usaili/mahojiano na utumiaji wa dodoso. Nazo nadharia zilizotumika ni nadharia ya Umbuji, na hasa Umbuji wa Daniel Kunene, Semiotiki na nadharia ya Ubadilikaji Mpya. Kuhusu matokeo, imebainika kwamba ushairi wa majigambo ya jadi na ule wa Bongo Fleva unafanana sana kimaudhui na kifani hivyo kuthibitisha kwamba majigambo ya Bongo Fleva yanachimbuka katika majigambo ya jadi. Ingawa kuna kufanana kwingi, aina hizo mbili za majigambo zina tofauti za namna fulani. Tofauti hizo ndogondogo zinazoonekana baina ya aina hizo mbili za majigambo, zinathibitisha kwamba ushairi wa majigambo unabadilika sambamba na mabadiliko yanayotokea katika jamii.
