Abstract
Map of world showing main types of low-rainfall farming areas in the world: (Maps will also he presented to show soils and land-use in the above areas. Semi-arid continental climate - characterized by long cold winters, short summers and either winter or spring rainfall varying from 300 to 500 mm (usually requiring storing soil moisture from one year to the next.1.3 Semi-arid tropical climate - characterized by: temperatures permitting plant growth throughout the year, limiting factor in farming being the duration and intensity of the rainy season(s) since in general the quantity of rain exceeds evapotranspiration during this season; it may even cause leaching of soil nutrients.
