Despite the studies already carried out on employee motivation, retention and productivity in the mining industry world-wide, there is inadequate investigation done on the influence of employee motivation and retention in increasing productivity in the Tanzanian mining industry. This study investigated the factors influencing employee motivation, retention and productivity in the Tanzanian mining industry. Data was collected from 105 employees in Atlas Copco Tanzania Limited and Africa Barrick Company basing on stratified and judgmental sampling. The data collection instruments used were questionnaires, interviews and documentary reviews. The collected data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) data analysis program. The study has identified appropriate factors influencing employee motivation, retention and productivity in Tanzanian mining industry specifically African Barrick Gold mine and Atlas Copco Tanzania. The influence of motivation and retention to employee productivity was established using regression analysis. The validity of the relationship existing between employee motivation, retention and productivity was also established using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Durbin-Watson and R-Square values. This study has significance to the employers and employees in Tanzanian public and private institutions. Hence, it is recommended that employers make reference to the findings of this study for reviewing their employee motivation and retention strategies so as to increase the productivity in Tanzanian mining industry.en_US
