This study investigated on how teachers’ shortage affects the internal efficiency of remote rural primary schools in Ileje and Mbeya Rural Districts of Tanzania. The study was targeted on examination of (TPR’s) state; the exploration of the salient factors that cause teachers’ shortage; and the investigation on the impact of teachers’ shortage on the primary education internal efficiency. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used in the study. It was found out that, in remote rural areas the impact of teachers’ shortage on primary education internal efficiency was significant in all aspects. The TPR’s was so wide that it affected the schools capacity to retain pupils in the schooling system, hence lower internal efficiency. In conducive environment the internal efficiency was found lower in all expects as it was in the remote rural areas excluding the pass and the transition rates. Yet, while teachers shortage was found to be a major factor that accounts for the lower internal efficiency in remote rural areas; in urban areas, the poor social economic background was as a leading factor. Therefore the study recommends that: the government should not only to deploy teachers to schools with teachers’ shortage, but also have mechanisms of retaining them, and the school administrations need to identify students with poor social economic conditions and encourage their positive participation in the schooling process. Also the study provokes different scholars to carry out further research relating on the topic in the country as currently only few researches have been conducted in this area.en_US
