Abstract

This study investigated the Role of ICT in Facilitating Entrepreneurship among Youth in the Entertainment Industry in Tanzania. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used in the study. Primary data were collected using questionnaires and interview guide. Secondary data were collected through documentary review. Data were analyzed by both qualitative and quantitative methods. Quantitative data were analyzed by statistical methods through the use of tables to indicate frequencies and percentages. The study intended to achieve the following specific objectives; to examine the nature of entrepreneurship in the entertainment industry in Tanzania, to identify barriers faced by entrepreneurs in the entertainment industry and to identify ways ICT help to overcome barriers faced by entrepreneurs in the entertainment industry in Tanzania. Overall, the study findings revealed that the utilization of ICT facilities by entrepreneurs have tremendously positive impacts in the entertainment (music and film) industry in Tanzania. In addition, the study identified several constraints to entrepreneurship development in the entertainment industry such as piracy, lack of clear policies and lack of enough knowledge to fully utilize of ICT facilities. The study ended up with policy recommendation on ICT and the government to ensure that the entertainment sector is fully recognized and formalized as far as it employs many youth.
