This study aimed at assessing the status of moral education and humanistic values in the teacher education and training curriculum. This study was conducted in the Coast and Morogoro regions ‘teacher’ colleges and head offices for MoEVT, TIE, TSD and TTU in Dar es Salaam. The study had total of 36 respondents. Qualitative research was the main approach employed in collecting and analyzing data. Data were gathered through focus group discussion, interviews, documentary review and observation. Findings revealed that there was a mismatch between policy aims and objectives on one hand implementation of the policy in the syllab on the other, with respect to teaching of moral education content in teachers’ colleges. It was also revealed that teaching of moral education and humanistic values through subject integration was an outdated strategy. The extra and hidden curricula activities were also overlooked. The Code of Professional Conduct was not accessed to trainees, either. The study conducted and recommends that preparation of professional teachers requires a fresh outlook, that considers the major tasks involved in child upbringing, alongside provision of academic content as is current the case.en_US
