Abstract

A large number of studies have been conducted during the last decade, attempting to identify the contributing factors to the performance of Government Institutions. However, a lot are required to be known about the performance of for-profit-institutions within Government Departments. This study evaluated the performance of for-profit¬ institutions within Government Departments: The case of Prisons Corporation Sole. The analyses of data gathered from Prisons Corporation Sole (Ukonga Carpentry Project) indicated that instability of cash flows, unclear operational costs, the dual role of the Workers and insufficient management skills have been the major sources for the poor performance of the Prisons Corporation Sole (Ukonga Carpentry Project). Some aspects for performance improvements have been discussed, together with future research within the Department.
