Abstract
This study is divided into three chapters. Chapter one introduces the problem of this study (i.e. the analysis of the principal determinants of meat demand in Dar es Salaam) and tries to put it into perspective by dwelling on some pertinent theoretical aspects related to consumer demand theory. It ends with a brief review of some research work that has been done on household behavior (especially on demand aspects). The review is both general and specific to Tanzania. Chapter two follows logically from the first chapter. In this chapter the pertinent explanatory variables are identifies for analysis is explained. The functional form describing the behavior of the variables under study is postulated and the estimation method is also presented and explained. The third chapter is the concluding chapter. Here the results of the study are presented and analyzed. The interpretation of the results is followed by some suggestions as to the usefulness of these results.
