This study examined how GBV news is framed by Tanzanian Newspapers. The study used quantitative approach as a research design; content analysis was used as a method of data collection. Coding sheets were also used as tools to facilitate data collection. The study was conducted in two purposefully selected newspapers which were Mwananchi and Daily News Newspaper of the year 2011. Key findings revealed that, there is underreporting of GBV news among Tanzania newspapers; this is due to inadequate number GBV news articles that were observed. Furthermore, most GBV news articles are not framed to show the causes and effects of the problem in order for the community to seek for solutions. Factors such as political economy of the newspapers, low level of awareness on gender issues among journalists and the use of non-professional journalists by the mushrooming media were mentioned as the cause of inadequate and improper framing of gender issues. In view of the above, the study recommends that journalists and editors should be educated on gender issues and gender courses should be inculcated in media learning institutions at all levels. Media houses should also conduct in-house workshops on gender issues from time to time. Journalist should apply investigative journalism techniques when covering gender issues in order to pursue causes and effects so that solution can be suggested.en_US
