dc.description.abstractThis study dealt with the promotion aspects influencing retention of health workers in Tanzania. It intended at evaluating how promotion affects employee’s satisfactions and hence retention, also evaluating factors lead to employee’s dissatisfactions’ and also the challenges in implementation of promotions strategies among organizations. The study used Ocean Road cancer institute as the case for the study. The study used the case study design to reveal the necessary and required data to answer the research questions. Questionnaires were used to collect data from different respondents and then analysed by simple table and frequencies graphs. Findings show that, there is high and positive relationship between health workers promotions, job satisfactions, and retention. Besides, findings show that the causes for employees’ dissatisfaction include low level of salary increase after promotion, long time taken to effect salary change after promotions, criteria used for promotions, lack of adequate training and development. The Challenges associated with health workers promotions were identified as financial constraints, poor human resource planning and poor communication. The study concluded and recommended that promotion challenges need to be effective addressed to ensure retention of health workers. Some of the recommended measures include finding other sources of income to supplement the available financial resources, from the government; preparation and implementation of human resources plans.en_US
