Abstract

Research problem: This study mainly aimed at examining the homosexual practices among the girls who reside in single boarding schools and assess the magnitude of that problem in the provision of quality education for students. Extensive literature review was done so as to generate relevant theoretical framework and discover the knowledge gap to be covered. It was discovered that most of the previous studies lacked deep insights on homosexual behavior for females because they were done in quantitative approach that could not dig out the data from respondents. Methodology: This study was qualitative in its nature and all the methodological process of selecting the sample, instruments of data collection, presentation and analysis of data followed qualitative approach. The study was conducted in Moshi Rural district and specifically at Weruweru, Ashira and Kibosho girls’ boarding schools. Eighty-four respondents were involved in the sample (sixty nine students, twelve teachers and three headmistresses). Data were collected by using Interviews, Documentary Review and Focus Group Discussions. Findings: The findings revealed that, a great number of girls especially form three; four, five and six were practicing homosexuality. The reasons for that would make them defeat body temptations and fear of consequences for practicing homosexuality. Conclusion: It was concluded that female students face many challenges on sexual matters and they need strong education to reserve their lives. It was also concluded that any girl who practice homosexuality declines in academic performance due to daydreams, truancy and wastage of time for learning. Recommendation: The study strongly recommended to the stakeholders to establish sex education soon in order to ensure the students defeat the sexual challenges and get quality education.
