Abstract
The thrust of this study was to assess the usefulness of Human Resource Information Systems to the public organizations, the case being Tanzania Public Service Commission. This study has come at a right time since all public organizations have adopted information systems in administering employees’ salaries and benefits. The study had three specific objectives. The first objective was to assess the usefulness of HRIS in PSC’s human resource planning. The second objective was to evaluate the usefulness of HRIS to the organization’s system integration. The third objective was to establish the HRIS usefulness in PSC’s management control and administration functions. Data were collected from 106 respondents using questionnaires and data were analyzed by using Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) within the SPSS.The study found out that, HRIS usefulness influences positively the Human resources planning and system integration. On the other hand, the study found out that HRIS does not influence positively management control and administration. From the findings, it can be asserted that the effectiveness and importance of HRIS to the organization are vital and organizations cannot afford to go without. It may be concluded that, maximum utilization of human resource information systems is inevitable in this era and public organizations must invest heavily in utilizing these systems to its maximum capacity. HRIS usefulness is for those organizations that use this system maximally and not otherwise.
