This Institute differs from its counterparts in East and ’.Vest Africa and the Caribbean in not being attached to a University College, This means that we have not only to conduct research, but have also to bear a greater burden in ensuring that the results of such research are generally known and utilized. This was early recognized by those responsible for Institute policy, "who defined our duties in the terms set out at the commencement of this report, page i. It is the object of the succeeding paragraphs to describe how we have set about the triple task of research, the provision of fact and the dissemination of knowledge and to record the successes and failures we have met with during the past year.en_US
