Abstract
During the third preliminary meeting on soil erosion control and land reclamation in Kondoa district (HADO) held on 25th August, 1976 it was felt that reconnaissance surveys by the various interested parties should be conducted so that those members who have not been to Kondoa before, should have an opportunity to see the affected area. It was also felt that a reconnaissance trip would provide basic information from which realistic financial estimates and proper research techniques would be based. A reconnaissance team of four scientists consisting of Dr. P.P. Banyikwa (Plant Ecologist and Consultant, University group), Mr. I.S. Kikula (Plant Ecologist), Miss S. Mohamed (Soil Scientist) and Mr, W. Rugumamu (Pedologist), visited the HADO project area in Kondoa district from 26th to 29th September 1978. During this brief reconnaissance trip, Mr. Mbegu, the HADO project manager, was able to send us through the whole project area and from this visit, we observed some vegetation and soil types
