Abstract

This study examined the role of local government authorities in land administration in urban areas. It aimed to give an effort to local authorities an autonomy power units decisions so as to avoid central government to intervene local authorities especially in land matters. As a result causes different land conflicts such as a double allocation, mi-allocation and corruption. This study investigated how local government authorities are involved in land administration, actual performance of local authorities in land matters, involvement of local authorities in solving land conflicts such as mis-allocation, double allocation and un proper land use. Based on the findings it was concluded that local government authorities are facing a number of problems especially in land administration due to the fact that central government intervene local government in its activities especially decisions in land matters. The researcher has discovered that central government through Ministry of Lands and Human Settlements, control local authorities in land matters. It is suggested that various local government authorities Acts and Central government laws be re-arnended to make sure that local authorities are given fully autonomy in its decision and this will reduce different conflicts.
