dc.description.abstract | This study used Enterprise Business Unit at Vodacom Tanzania to understand the influence of leadership towards change management in the telecom industry. The present study was conducted through a qualitative case study. It mainly employed in depth interviews and participant observations. These enhanced to study the nature and causes of changes, strategies, and approaches/leadership styles used in managing change and lastly to unfold employee perception of the role or influence of leadership in effective change management. The sample size that was used during the study was 59 respondents among 72 employees. The findings from this study have revealed that leaders play a critical role or has big influence in leading teams through fast-paced and complex change, while meeting expected business results through effectively executing challenging business plans. The study has also revealed that the leader needs to understand the culture of people and organization so as to use situational style or specific leadership style so as to drive the changes successfully. That is to say that there is a need of balancing culture and business needs during transition for successful changes. Furthermore, the study revealed the role and influence of leadership styles towards change management example, the transformational leaders are considered by their capability to identify the need for change, gain the agreement and commitment of others, create a vision that guides change and embed the change (MacGregor Bums, 2003). There is no single right way to lead because the internal and external dimensions of the environment require the leader to adapt to that particular situation" This study also showcase that leaders must develop positive behavior and distinguishing factors to influence team members. Leadership is influence thereby people follow leaders based on desire, relationship, loyalty, ability to produce results, developing people's potential and respect. So during company changes great leaders will have to use positive and optimistic phrases when speaking with their members of their team so as to get their buy in. Leaders should refrain from negativity and use of damaging statements that has the potential for demotivation and sever the relationship as the building block of influence. Leaders must go beyond the position level to gain relationship and transition to permission level that is the first step toward leadership. In this level leader includes others in decision making and displays a caring attitude thereby gaining loyalty and influence. The study also suggest that leaders should go through change stages like freezing, unfreezing, change and freeze for change to be successful. | en_US |
