Abstract
The computerized human resources Information Systems ( HURIS ) is the computer system that is designed to provide management with HR data/ information that will help in making various decisions. The successful implementation of computerized HURIS implies that being able to gain the advantages and objectives of having the system as intended in the first place. The implementation of computerized system lately has been one of the most important strategies for various organizations so as to cope with changes in management styles that are caused by advancement in information technology ( IT ). Therefore, various organizations be the private or public succumb to the implementation and application of IT so as to improve efficiency and effectiveness in their business functionalities. The objective of this study was to examine the factors that hinder the successful implementation of computerized HURIS in the public settings, whereby the focus was in the President’s Office Public Service Management ( PO-PSM ). The results of this study were aimed at suggesting solutions regarding the problems of implementing computerized systems. Thus the proposed solutions could be helpful in the improved performance of government settings, since PSM deals with formulating human resources policies for various government ministries, institutions, agencies and departments. The study found that inadequate knowledge about the computerized system is one of the problems hindering successful implementation of computerized HURIS. Other challenges regarding implementation of systems were: management support and commitments, lack of enough IT consultants during implementation, lack of policies and regulations to enforce the end user and other employees to use the systems and users perceptions and attitude towards the computerized HURIS. However the study recommends that there is a need for HRM practitioners to be exposed to various training on IT in order to attain the successful implementation of computerized systems
