Abstract

This study aimed at examining the efficiency in the utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICTs) in enhancing the provision of public services delivery to the community of Kinondoni Municipality, Dar es Salaam. The major focus was on the effectiveness utilization of ICTs in improving operation and efficiency delivery of public services. Data were collected through the use of triangulation method of data collection where by combination of methods of data collections were applied. Data were analyzed by using the Statistical Program for Social Scientists (SPSS). The findings of the study revealed that there is inefficiency in the utilization of ICTs at KMC due to lack of specific applications software, shortage of budget to support ICTs operations, maintenance and development and also there is frequent power failure which interrupts the regular applications of ICTs. Therefore, this study concludes that, despite of sufficient number of ICTs KM has, there is less efficiency in the utilization of ICTs; consequently there is less efficiency in provision of public services delivery to the community of KMC. This study recommends that, KMC should acquire applications software which Departments still need. It should increase its budget to support ICTs operations, maintenance and developments. It should also acquire a standby generator to ensure regular operations of ICTs whenever there is power interruption.
