Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine and make a thorough analysis of women’s labour force participation in alleviating poverty. The objectives of the study were to: identify the economic activities of women and scale their income, analyze the utilization of the income earned by women, identify the length of time women spend working, and determine the perception of people towards employed women. A survey was done in three wards of Magomeni, Kawe and Mbezi, where data were through questionnaire, interview, observation and documentary review. In this respect both qualitative and quantitative data were obtained. The data were analyzed and the findings were presented in charts, graphs, tables, explanatory and descriptive forms. The findings revealed that, the rate of women participating in labour force is increasing. Also, the findings established that women engage themselves in various economic activities and that; they spend reasonable time in these activities. On the whole, it was established that, women direct their income to domestic, education, transport and investment use. The perception of people towards employed women, the attitudes of many people both individually and in group, form have gradually accepted the concept. Recommendations were given to women, entire society, institutions and the government on provision of more opportunities to women in order to realize their talents.
