This study investigated the contribution of TASAF supported projects to social and economic development of the community in Sumbawanga district. A sample of 24 out of 51 villages was selected in which TASAF implanted its projects in the district. The research concentrates on education, health, water supply and works/construction projects for a period between 2001 and 2012. It was found out that 94% of respondents agreed that TASAF supported their villages. Sixty-two (62) projects had been completed and certified. A number of projects supported by TASAF have provided positive contribution to both social and economic improvement of people’ lives; hence people were more aware on the projects supported by TASAF. It was found out that project sustainability was made possible because communities were involved from the initial stages. Moreover, projects were mainstreamed into existing administrative system in the community such as village government or district authority. However, for income generating activities, the study further found out that sustainability was at risk in the long run because most of the projects were supported on a group basis without observing group dynamic needs. In conclusion the objectives of TASAF support to communities have been met through improved access to basic socio-economic services, reduction in time taken to and from facilities such as health services, schools and water sources.en_US
