Abstract
This study was intended to investigate factors hampering the development of leasing business in mobile phone companies conducted in Dar es Salaam Region. This is supposed to shed light on factors along with challenges affecting the development of leasing business in Tanzania in the Lessee perspective. The study is based on the theory that there are factors limiting Lessee from accessing leasing services in Tanzania, which in turn makes leasing business unsustainable. The study had three specific objectives of finding out the factors that hamper the development of leasing business in Tanzania, analyzing how lessee firms in Tanzania adopt/invest in leasing business and finally recommend possible remedies that could mitigate the factors and risks Hampering the development of leasing business in Tanzania. Data collection was undertaken through questionnaires, interview and documentary review of which were qualitative and quantitative in nature. Qualitative data were subjected to content analysis while quantitative data were analysed using statistical test such as descriptive test chi square.The study revealed that to a greater extent, leasing business opportunities have marketed to potential Lessees. Although it is agreed that there are factors Hampering the development of leasing business in Tanzania, there is a higher positive perception and gradual increased investments in the business. The researcher recommends the Ministry of Commercial and trade to develop an attractive and efficient leasing policy to attract more foreign investors and facilitate smooth implementation of leasing businesses in Tanzania. In conclusion, high leasing rate, low number of leasing players, financial and technical capabilities are among the factors Hampering development of leasing business in Tanzania. There is a need for enhancing public awareness, financial capability and advisory on leasing business alongside with introduction of attractive and efficient leasing policy in the country.
