This study aimed to assess the Impact of the Use of ICT in teaching and learning in the selected public secondary schools using Ilala Municipality in Dar es Salaam. The general objective of the study was to investigate the impact of the use of ICT in teaching and learning process in the selected public secondary schools in Ilala Municipality. Specifically, the study examined three objectives which were: the availability and accessibility of ICT resources in secondary schools; the utilization of ICT resources in teaching and learning; and the contribution of ICT in teaching and learning in secondary schools. A total of 104 secondary school teachers and 122 secondary school students were sampled as respondents. The study used descriptive case study research design and a triangulation of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. The methods of data collection were survey questionnaire, observation and in-depth interviews. Quantitative data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists while qualitative data was analysed using content analysis. The study findings revealed that ICT facilities were available and accessible even though inadequate. The findings also revealed that ICT was used to perform only few tasks and that ICT was taught as an optional subject and thus not all students could be beneficiaries. Teachers were found to be enthusiastic and positive about the utilization and contribution of ICT in teaching and learning process, even though the integration of ICT in teaching and learning in secondary schools was low. More emphasis is required so that education policies could be shaped in such a way that ICT use in education becomes compulsory. The study recommends that the Government in collaboration with education stakeholders should put more emphasis in translating policy goals in action by supplying adequate and relevant ICT facilities in public secondary schools as well as stressing on in-service training on ICT for teachers.en_US
