Abstract
This study assessed the extent to which climate change has become a new threat to peace and security in Tanzania with a special focus on Kilosa district in Morogoro region specifically, the study explored respondents’ level of awareness about the concept of climate change, examined their views about the extent to which climate change has become a threat to peace and security, and identified the measures that were taken by people in Kilosa District to address adverse effects of climate change on peace and security. To achieve the foregoing objectives, data were collected through documentary review, participatory rural appraisal, household survey, and focus group discussion (FGD). Data analysis was done through the Statistical Packages for Social Scientists (SPSS) computer software. In this vein, the study found that all respondents had considerable knowledge of the concept of climate change. This study further found out that climate change had to a greater extent, threatened peace and security in Kilosa district, and that a number of measures were taken by the local community to address the effects of climate change on peace and security in Kilosa. The study, therefore suggested that the government should encourage all stakeholders to collaborate in order to reduce the adverse effects of climate change on peace and security in the district. Also, people in Kilosa should be sensitized to maintain peace and security for their present benefit and that of their future generations
