Factors affecting customer's usage of debit cards the case of CRDB bank

Abstract

The dissertation examines factors that influence usage of debit cards in Tanzania. The dissertation is based on CRDB deb it card called Tembo card as a study case. The research collected data through questionnaire survey from 50 customers of CRDB bank who hold debit card and 26 non holders of debit cards. The data were on their attitudes towards debit cards, social factors,, demographic factors and their habits in relation to decision to use debit cards, frequency and extent to using debit cards A model was developed from literature review and was tested and found to be fit for the measures. The data were then subjected to several statistical analyses including Chi square to test and establish association that exists between the study variables and usage of debit cards. The results show that cost, security and reliability of the service together with income and occupational levels of people influence decision of people to start using debit cards. Frequency of using debit cards is influenced by company persuasions/promotions, cost, accessibility and reliability of the service, cash payment habit, as w ell as income and occupations of people. However, extent of using debit cards is influenced by only income and occupation levels of people
