Abstract

Impending other priorities put by the Government and neglecting improvement of teachers’ code of professional conduct, the teachers’ considerable cachet can not be reached to its standard, hence lead to poor education provision. Quite often teachers are blamed of poor improving code of professional conduct in the recent decade as compared to the past, and thus jeopardize the quality of education delivery. The purpose of this study was to investigate the root causes for the persistent problems of unethical behaviour among public primary schools teachers in Mbozi district, Mbeya region. The information was obtained from 220 respondents in the area of study. Samples included in the study were DEOs, TSD officers, WECs, Headteachers, teachers, Standard VI Pupils and Parents. The main data collection methods included questionnaires, interviews, and documentary reviews in regard to the major study areas and its findings. The undertaking examined teachers’ training, education administration, teachers’ working environment and teachers’ motivation can contribute to unprofessional conduct. The findings revealed that there is an extreme misconduct and poor adherence to code of professional conduct among teachers within Tanzania and Worldwide. Unethical behaviour among teachers was associated with poor teachers’ training, inefficient administration, poor working environment, and little motivation. However, for a firm and ethical teaching force extra efforts should be made to improve teachers’ enthusiasm. Improved working environment, education administration, teachers’ training and teachers’ motivation will maintain teachers’ moral and professional conduct. Since teachers are mirrors of nations, then the on going generation will be at ease with well knowledgeable, well behaved ethical teachers.
