Abstract
The objective of the study was to examine the impact of entrepreneurial skills amongst fisheries personnel on the performance of fishery industry. More specifically the study sought to examine the extent to which independent mindset, determination attributes, daring spirit and creativity amongst fisheries personnel relate to performance of the fishery industry in Tanzania. The data for the study were collected from both primary and secondary sources. These data were collected from selected four fisheries organizations through structured questionnaire. Number of respondents were 91. Simple random sampling was used to select these respondents. On the other hand Purposive Sampling was used to select 6 key informants for indeph information for the study. Findings indicate that all the 4 independent varaibles namely independent mindset, determination attributes, daring spirit and creativity had positive influence on the performance of fishery industry. Nevertheless only independent mindset and determination had strongest influence while the rest had modest influence on the performance of the fishery industry. The data were analysed with the help of Microsoft excel and SPSS to compute frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. It is recommended that fisheries personnel must be concious on developing entrepreneurial attributes which are independent mindset and determination attributes. Several on job trainings should be conducted so as to improve entrepreneurial capabilities. The government should empower the Fisheries institutions by providing them with technical skills and entrepreneurship trainings so as to guide more fisheries personnel towards entrepreneurial tendencies with consequential effect in accelerating sectoral performance.
