Abstract

Staff Training and Development (STD) is a human resource management function designed to help employees become more effective at work by improving, advancing and refining their knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience. The successful implementation of STD will bring advantage of employees’ high performance. The implementation of the Staff Training and Development has been one of the most important strategies, for various organizations so as to cope with changes in the management style as well as the advancement of technology. For this case, all working organizations being government or private need to implement STD so as to improve efficiency and effectiveness of their business. The objective of this study was to determine the Training and Development Programs and their impact to employees’ performance. The study was specifically conducted at PPF Dar es Salaam Office, Headquarter. The results of this study were aimed at identifying the impact of STD on employees’ performance, to help Tanzanian work organizations to invest in staff training with confidence. Generally the study found that there is a relationship between Staff Training and Development with the employees’ performance. According to respondents, most of them have been influenced by STD to perform well and the management declared that, STD brought changes to their employees towards their performance. Though Staff Training PPF was able to retain its competent staff hence gained a competitive advantage. However the study recommends that, there is a need for every working organization to expose its employees to various training according to the Training Needs Assessment in order to attain effective performance.
