Abstract

The main objective of this study seeks to assess the effects of contract of employment in private sector in Tanzania. Syscorp Media (plc) is used as a case study. In this study, data were collected through a structured questionnaire and documentary review. The study was qualitatively done and a data from 55 respondents was expected and all returned the questionnaires which is 100% expectations. The study was a descriptive in nature and the data was analysed using frequencies, tables and percentages with the aid of SPSS. The findings were drawn from the expected sample of 55 employees. The findings revealed that majority of the respondents are aware of the contract of employment because they have been exposed on the HR policy of the organization. The contents of the employment they are aware of included, freedom of association, working durations, payment for overtime, social security and safety & training. The findings revealed further that employee attitude towards contractual employment affect employee job motivation. The result showed that most of them agreed that contract of employment creates job motivation. Usually job motivation and satisfaction does influence individual work performance. However the study uncovered that there are effects associated with contract of employment which hinder also communication behaviour between the employee and the employer and the whole process of production. Of the questionnaire surveyed respondents majority strongly agreed that contract of employment affect employee. Hence fulfilment of the terms and conditions specified in the contract of employment by the employer and employee is of great importance in the company operations.
