Abstract

Tanzania is the custodian of a rich and diversified cultural and natural heritage. One aspect of this heritage is the Rock Art, paintings executed on the faces of rock shelters. It is surmised that some of the paintings were executed by a prehistoric people of the Later Stone Age and date to between 3,000 - 5,000 years ago, though evidence in Namibia where similar paintings are found suggest that some of the paintings might be as old as 28,000 - 30,000 years.
