dc.description.abstractOne of the greatest obstacles women face cross-nationally is the low number they occupy in official positions. Tanzania like many other countries has taken various measures to ensure to ensure an increase of women in the Public Service. The main objective of the study was to examine whether women`s access to postgraduate studies has any impact on their appointment or access to high leadership decision making positions. The study was conducted in Dar es salaam at the President's Office, Public Service President`s Office, public Service Management, Tanzania National Assembly Dar es salaam Sub Office, TGNP and TAWLA. Data was collected through questionnaires, interviews and documentary review. The study`s findings revealed that, various decision making positions and to ensure women's promotion in education. Post graduate programme for female public servant is among the strategies which was introduced by government as a deliberate efforts of preparing women to compete for top positions in the public service. The study further noted that there is a positive relations ship between postgraduate qualifications and women`s access to leadership decision making positions. The establishment Circulars issued in 2002 regarding the Public Service Schemes of Service accelerated the need for public servants to have postgraduate qualification as a condition to job be appointed of promoted or promoted to higher ranks. The study recommend that the government should take deliberate measures to invest more on women in order to increase their participation in the public service.en_US
