Abstract
The main objective of the study was to determine factors to consider when planning for Information System Disaster Recovery Plan (IS-DRP) in the financial institutions in Tanzania. In this study data were collected from the questionnaire survey which involved 71 respondents. The respondents were drawn from Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF) employees where management and non-management as well as retirees from the public service who were members of PSPF were involved. The surveyed data were presented in a tabular form and subjected to content analysis. The study findings revealed that financial institutions are crowned by IT risks in their day to day operating environment. Sometimes these risks generate crisis which results into severe disasters that hinder business operations and continuity. The managerial, technical and environmental factors were identified and analyzed altogether to find out the most effect factors without ignoring the least effect one. The study findings revealed also that for the continuity of the business, IS-DRP should be updated and maintained frequently, employees capacity on IS-DRP should be upgraded, management should be involved in the planning and preparation processes of IS-DRP and that the importance of IS-DRP need to be understood by all employees across the organization.
