| dc.description.abstract | This study investigated the involvement of parents in managing public pre-primary schools in Kibaha District, in Coastal Region, Tanzania. This study explored the parents’ understanding of their involvement in managing public pre-primary schools; identified factors influencing parents’ involvement in managing public pre-primary schools and highlighted challenges facing parents’ involvement in managing public pre-primary schools. The study used qualitative approach with case study design. Data collection process involved the use of interviews, documentation and observation checklist. Content analysis guided data analysis procedures. The study revealed that parents’ understanding of their involvement in managing public pre-primary school education is little. The study revealed that parents’ involvement in managing public pre-primary school needed to strengthen and motivate parents to be involved in managing public pre-primary schools by making school environments in managing public pre-primary school education. In trying to fulfill goals for their pre-primary children, they experienced challenges such as free education policy of 2016, insufficient time and money, lack of cooperation among parents, poor communication between parents and teachers in public pre-primary schools. Furthermore, most of the parents failed to be fully involved in managing public pre-primary school due to the scarcity of resources such as physical and financial resources. In this regard, it was recommended that there must be important issues which need to be considered by the government. For-example when the government plans for pre-primary school policy, the government must specify clearly the responsibilities of parents in managing public pre-primary school.
