dc.description.abstract | Education represents one of the most important areas for quality improvement. Adequate resources including the school fees charged in secondary schools are important in attaining reasonable level of quality education. This study investigated the relationship between the level of fees charged by private secondary schools and the quality of education received in those schools. Respondents in this study included stakeholders comprising 3 schools charging relatively high fees, and another 3 charging relatively moderate fees. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires interviews and observation methods. Findings from the study revealed that those schools which charged high fees were perceived by both parents and teachers as providing more quality education. They were also found to have better examination results, pay better salaries to their teachers, and had better facilities such as Stationary, laboratory equipment’s, chemicals, apparatus, textbooks and reference books. It is recommended that in order to ensure quality education in the country, the Government and Ministry of Education in general should facilitate the effectiveness of private schools by reducing tax in some of the important school equipment’s and teaching materials (e.g. building material, furniture, computers etc) in order to enable many schools to provide quality education same as that which is currently being provided high fees secondary schools. Future researches can be extended to government schools and also other regions in order to come up with a more comprehensive relationship between the available funds/resources and the quality of education provided by the schools. Quality of education can also be extended to more than passing the examinations to encamp such matters as students’ emotional and cultural development. | en_US |
