In this work a comparative study of Ruri, Jita and Kwaya “languages” of the eastern shores of Lake Nyanza, in Musoma District, has been made. The aim is to try to establish whether these so-called “languages” are really separate languages or are mere dialects of one common (parent) language. The introductory part of the work surveys the existing views as regards to these “languages” and their validity. Section II mainly concerns the methodological approach. Section III is an overview of previous classification of these “language” Vs ‘Dialect’ with a view to shading more light to the work intended. Section V embodies the main body of the work. Under this a comparison of two major items has been made: (a) A set of lexical items (b) A set of grammatical items. The work contains an Appendix at the end. These are samples of tenses.en_US
