dc.description.abstract | This study is an account of the significance of music in four Kaguru traditional theatre forms. It shows the contribution of music, vocal and instrumental, towards the totality of these theatre forms. The introduction is a locational, cultural, musical and theatrical background of the Kaguru. The study provides a descriptive background and then a discussion of the performance and the significance of music in each of the four theatre forms, which are:- (1) Traditional Religious Worship (2) Initiation rites - (a) For boys (b) For girls (3) Ngoma (4) Story-telling. It then discusses the impact of Western civilization on these forms and how the trends and development of the music in them has been affected. The discussions and descriptions are based on information gathered through interviews with people of the area as well as personal experience and witness I have had within a number of years’ living among the people. | en_US |
