dc.description.abstractThe main objective of this research was to evaluate the factors that influence the Police Force‘s popularity to the society. Specifically, the study was motivated by the desire to evaluate the impact of corruption to the performance of the police force, evaluation of the duties and responsibilities of Police officers, evaluation of pay packages and other fringing benefits of police officers in relation to their performance and evaluation of the role of Management in the performance of Police officers. The research was based on interviews and the questionnaire methods where in general there was a good turn up of respondents. A total number of 60 who were the respondents were interviewed and asked to fill the questionnaires where all respondents responded positively. The research involved some of the main stakeholders of the Tanzania Police Force who could provide relevant information concerning the study. The population of study included the Police Officers who were taken from all the three Police Regions of the Dar es Salaam City namely Special Police Regions of Temeke, Ilala and Kinondoni. Other sources of data were PCCB, Political Leaders, Religious Leaders, Academicians, the Human Rights Centre and the civilians. The findings revealed that, the Tanzania Police Force is losing Popularity to the public and the foremost reasons discovered are corruption practices, failure to fulfill their duties and responsibilities, poor pay packages (motivations, and poor management of the Police Force by the top officers. Essentially, the study recommends that: TPF should fight corruptive elements among its employees and all behavior associated with it, care should be taken in the recruitment process, fairness in discharging police duties and responsibilities, Improve Community Policing and also emphasis should be put on Training and development among the Police Officers. Also the research proposes the improvement police welfare, salaries and other benefits. The study further call for the need of transparence in daily police activities and the improvement of emergence unity to help people during emergencies.en_US
