| dc.description.abstract | The development of the stock exchange in Tanzania is part of government efforts of expanding the financial sector. Under economic liberalization policies, the government has started the necessary step to reform the financial sector, restructuring the financial institutions, licensing foreign banks and developing the stock exchange. The main objective of this study was to underscore the potential demand and supply of securities to be traded in the stock exchange. It has been revealed by this study that there is potential supply and demand for securities, regardless of low knowledge of securities trading. Data analysis is done in the fourth chapter, with tables of results tabulated, together with explanations of research findings. The findings have shown that more than 50% of sampled firms are profit making, indicating their potential for listing or investing in the stock exchange. It has also revealed that 44% of firms with knowledge of the stock exchange development expect to invest to earn dividends and 40% are expecting to sell securities. The privatization of parastatals in Tanzania by selling of shares through joint ventures and retaining of some shares by the government is expected to increase initial supply of securities for stock exchange development. | en_US |
