dc.description.abstract | The study was designed to provide an assessment of the adoption of the open performance review and appraisal system (OPRAS) in Tanzania; a case of Tanzania Airport Authority (TAA). Specific Objectives of the study were to assess TAA employees awareness on the benefits of OPRAS, to evaluate the employees’ attitude towards the intended use of the tool in Tanzania Airports Authority, and to investigate problems facing the implementation of the OPRAS since it was operationalized in 2001 in TAA.The study employed a qualitative approach. The data were collected through documentary sources, questionnaires, and observation and it was analysed using SPSS for initial data analysis. The findings reveal that employees in TAA are aware of the benefits of using OPRAS. In addition, the employees at TAA have positive attitude towards usage of OPRAS as a tool for employee appraisals and performance management in the organization. In addition the study has found that problems encountered when implementing OPRAS at TAA are lack of management support, little effort to build employee and supervisor awareness, little awareness of the organisational strategic objectives, and inadequate skills to set performance criteria and targets. The study recommends that policy makers and managers are required to set enough budgets to support the implementation of OPRAS at the public organizations and to design training on performance management and appraisal. | en_US |
