This study was designed to investigate the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the selected ministry libraries in Tanzania. The study had three specific objectives with related research questions. The objectives were to assess the current status of ICT in the selected ministry libraries, to assess how ministries managed to develop efficient, effective and sustainable ICT application in their libraries, to examine the contribution of ICT in the performance of libraries and to identify the challenges that ministry libraries face in adopting ICT. The study was carried out in Dar es Salaam. A quantitative approach employing a descriptive survey design was used. The study used 162 respondents in the categories of (4) Permanent Secretaries, (16) library specialists and (142) ministry library users (workers). Purposive, stratified and simple random sampling were employed to finally obtain the respondents. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, questionnaires and observations. The data collected were subjected to quantitative analysis using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study has revealed that ministry librarians had enough knowledge on the utilization of ICT equipment in their respective libraries. However the study found out that the utilization of ICT in the ministry libraries was not efficient due to the lack of enough ICT facilities like computers, printers, phones, scan machines. The major reason was lack of enough funds from the central government. As the results there has been poor utilization of ICT in the libraries. The study has concluded that ministry library infrastructures should be changed to accommodate ICT facilities instead of using outdated libraries with small spaces.en_US
