This research was conducted to assess and hence to articulate the contribution of civil society organizations to non-income poverty reduction. This research focused to of non-income poverty, namely, education, health and water services. The study was conducted in Nungwi constituency in Zanzibar. It used a case study of four CSOs based in the study area. The study used both qualitative and quantitative methods to collect and analyze data. The study found that CSOs in Nungwi make a significant contribution in reducing non- income poverty through supporting access to education, health services and clean water. As regards education, the study found that CSOs’ contribution ranges from construction of classrooms to organizing extra classes and learning camps for students preparing for national examinations. In the health sector, the study found that Nungwi CSOs’ main contribution focused on digging up wells that supply water to needy communities. The study found that despite their great contribution, CSOs’ efforts were not known about by the government units. The study also found that, although Nungwi CSO’s activities build on MKUZA and the Millennium development Goals, many CSO leaders are ignorant of the two. Among other things, the study recommends that government-CSOs cooperation be improved, particularly as regards sharing information between them. The study also recommends CSOs to use the mass media increase community involvement and familiarize themselves with MKUZA and the Millennium development Goals.en_US
