This study assesses the role of port operations on trade facilitation among users with focus on Dar es Salaam Port. Specifically, the study examines whether Dar es Salaam port management system, multimodal transport, information technology, and rules and regulations affect trade facilitation. The study applies quantitative research approach and the data were collected from 100 respondents through a questionnaire. Additionally, five interviews were conducted to supplement information that seemed difficult to be collected via the questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using both descriptive and regression analysis. For descriptive analysis the average percentage of respondents against each variable were obtained, while the regression analysis tested the relationship between trade facilitation against the four objectives. The findings of the study revealed that sixteen variables that constitute the four objectives proved that port operations affect trade facilitation. Port management system, multimodal transport, information technology and rules and regulations are considered as indicators for efficient port operations hence has to be closely observed. However, some factors were denied by the model used to analyze the data but to a higher extent the variables set into each objective showed to have impact on trade facilitation. The study concluded that improvements need to be made in management system, technological improvement, designing infrastructures that are integrated to support easy movement of goods and services as well as harmonization of rules and regulations as most of them are not friendly to port users. Moreover, the government has to consider harmonization of policy govern each actor at the port to ensure smooth logistics at the port.en_US
