The present study examines the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) in Tanzania. A case study on the subject was carried out in Kibaha district, near Dar Es Salaam. The study is divided into seven chapters. Chapter One presents the background to the subject and formulates a framework for the whole study. Chapter Two gives an overview about immunization in Tanzania in past years. The chapter notes that the immunization was carried out in a rather unsystematic way until the EPI programme was initiated. Chapter Four decribes the research methods. The research findings are divided into two chapters. Chapter Five begins with a general description of the Tanzanian primary health care services as well as of those in Kibaha district. After that follows a description of the administration and organization of the EPI programme. The chapter concludes with a presentation of observations done by the researcher on these matters in Kibaha district. Chapter Six concentrates on analysis of the immunization records of eight dispensaries in Kibaha district. These records are presented in statistical tables and in graphs and an effort is then made to analyze them. In Chapter Seven the research findings are discussed and some conclusions drawn. The chapter is concluded by recommendations on how to improve the efficiency of the Expanded Programme on Immunization.en_US
