Abstract
The study was on investigation of information efficiency in financial market, A case study of Dar es salaam stock exchange (DSE), the main objective of the study was to find out the extend of information efficiency in financial market The study was an attempt to test the efficiency of Dar es Salaam stock Exchange with respect to Dividends announcement by listed companies. The researcher explained historical background of the study, statement of the problem, objective of the study which was divided into two parts namely general objective and three specific objectives, three research questions, three hypotheses and significance of the study, limitation of the study, organization of the study were formed. Researcher dealt with literature relating to the study, various books and research reports relevant to the study were reviewed. Researcher also presented research methodology, 10 listed companies were involved into study, out of these 6 companies which satisfied criteria set were selected; the researcher used interview, observations and documentations as the method of collecting data. Data were analyzed by using the following tools, these were: Daily returns, Security returns variability, average security returns variability, average abnormal returns, cumulative abnormal returns and T-test.The researcher presented and discussed results of the study. Lastly researcher drew the conclusion on the study and expressed his recommendations on how to improve performance of capital markets in the near future.
