Abstract
The study was conducted to investigate factors hindering companies from listing at the DSE. It focused on companies with potential from listing situated in Dar es Salaam. It was focused that the decisions to issue shares to the public and become listed at the DSE is hindered by alternatives the study developed a conceptual framework. A number of hypotheses were posed and tested using chi-square test. Multiple regression analysis was used to establish the significance of contribution of each independent variable to the dependent variable. It was focused that the decision to issue shares to the public become listed at the DSE is hindered by alternative resources of finance. Dilution of ownership, listing and discharge requirements, and fiscal incentives were not seen as hindrance. Furthermore the study established other factors which make companies not to list at the DSE. It is concluded that, the decision to issue shares to the public and become listed at the DSE is function of various factors. The study recommends that the DSE and CMSA under government support should make capital market in Tanzania to be able to corporate with other resources of finance. More efforts should be made to sensitize companies to participate at the DSE.
