This study examines the influence of credit management practices on loan repayment behavior in Tanzania. Specifically, the study seeks to: determine the perceived effects of borrowers’ characteristics on loan repayment behaviour, determine the perceived effects of MFIs’ characteristics on loan repayment behaviour, determine the perceived effects of business characteristics on loan repayment behaviour and determine the perceived effects of MFIs’ policy and regulations on loan repayment behaviour. The study was quantitative in nature, where 96 customers from three MFIs were involved in the study and they filled copies of the questionnaire regarding loan repayment behaviour. Chi - Square test and Somers’d test were used to estimate the relationship among variables. The findings indicated that loan repayment behaviour was positively related with four independent variables: borrowers’ characteristics, MFIs’ characteristics, business characteristics and MFIs’ policy and regulations. Furthermore, the study indicated that loan repayment behaviours that are influenced by credit management practices of MFIs are ability of these institutions to instil high credit discipline, saving culture, trust, utmost responsibility and encouragement of trust among group members. The study put forward recommendations to managers and directors of MFIs to design credit management practices that would predict good loan repayment behaviour to their customers to ensure loan default is minimized to a greater extent.en_US
