| dc.description.abstract | This study assessed librarians' adoption and use of Koha automation software in selected academic libraries in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The study examined functional use of KOHA, librarian‘s skills and competences levels in using KOHA, evaluated librarians‘ satisfaction with KOHA, identified and analysed hurdles faced by librarians when using KOHA and finally proposed measures to resolve the problems. The study adopted a descriptive case study design and involved the Open University of Tanzania (OUT), Institute of Finance Management (IFM), and the College of Business Education (CBE) as purposefully sampled cases to represent the population of academic libraries which implement the KOHA software in Dar es Salaam region in Tanzania. Mixed methods approaches were employed to collect data for the research. A total of 49 respondents were involved in the study. This include (43) librarians, three (3) System administrators and three (3) library directors. Purposive, simple random and convenience sampling techniques were used to obtain units of analysis. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires, interviews, participant observations as well as documentary review. Data were analyzed by using IBM Statistical Package and Service Solution (SSPS). The current study adopted Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to explain Perceived Usefulness (PU) and Perceived Ease of Use (PEoU) of librarians on using KOHA software. Besides the challenges revealed by the study such as difficulties in maintenance, inability to keep up with software updates, and limited knowledge on open sources, librarians had a positive attitude on the use of KOHA and so there was impressive adoption and implementation of the KOHA in their libraries. The study recommended more training to equip libraries with requisite skills, Organizational management support, Availability of more funds, Use of Online KOHA community, Formulation of ICT policy and Improvement of ICT infrastructures to ensure optimal utilization of KOHA in academic libraries. | en_US |
