dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to assess the job satisfaction of employees recruited directly by the company versus employees recruited through employment agencies. The objectives aimed at investigating management treatment over directly recruited employees as compared to agency recruited employees in the same company and assessing the level of job satisfaction of employees recruited directly by the companies and that of employees recruited through employment agencies working in the same companies.The data for this study was collected through questionnaires which gave a 70% return rate. Therefore 70 employees from telecommunications, hospitality and energy sectors in Dar es Salaam participated in responding to a questionnaire that posed different statements on a 5 point Likert scale. Thereafter analyzed in two stages, first through SPSS descriptive analysis by presenting data in cross tabulation format for each situation counts and percentages comparatively. The data from SPSS was subjected to thematic content analysis as the final stage of data analysis.The findings revealed that management treatment of companies that mix recruits from employment agencies and in-house HR departments was more dissatisfactory to employees recruited through employment agencies and more satisfactory to those who were recruited directly by the companies. Also, the individual job satisfaction for employees was more satisfactory for those recruited directly by the companies and more dissatisfactory for those recruited through employment agencies.Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that agency recruited employees should take initiative to educate themselves on employee equity at workplace, employment agencies to find another way to cover their costs and make profit other than deducting employee salaries n benefits, employment agencies to be dynamic in management styles and the government to put up an effective regulatory authority for all employment agencies.Similar studies have been conducted regarding employment agencies and job satisfaction of employees sourced from them. Regardless, this study filled the gap in knowledge about the situation of employee job satisfaction depending on their source of recruitment in the African context and including several sectors prevailing in the economy (telecommunications, hospitality, energy). | en_US |
